Playing Music in a Business Premises
Competent Authority
Under law, two distinct permissions are required by businesses in Ireland who play music - one which covers the public performance of the musical work on behalf of composers, songwriters and music publishers and the other which covers the public performance of sound recordings on behalf of record producers and performers.
From January 1st 2016, both distinct licences are included in the Dual Music Licence administered by IMRO.
Steps of the procedure
If you wish to request a public performance licence online you can do so here.
1. On the form select the business classification that best describes your business operation.
2. Fully answer the relevant questions to your business and music usage
3. Submit these details directly to IMRO
4. A member of the IMRO Licensing Department will then contact you directly regarding your licence requirements and individual annual royalty charge.
Applicable fees and online method of payment
Fees vary depending on the business classification, music usage and premises capacity.(please see the fees list IMRO here)
All invoices from IMRO are sent by post and/or email and are payable on receipt. You may pay by Credit Card, Electronic Bank Transfer or Direct Debit.
